Must Reads for Prep to Grade 3

Reading is a very important exercise that all will help students build a solid foundation for grammar, spelling and comprehension.


Here's a list of books that are great to read for each year group!




1. Charlotte's WEB - E.B White

The book revolves around a little girl named Ferm who loves a pig and a special friend Charlotte, who is a spider.

This story is great for kids to learn concepts of friendship and how working together can achieve your goals.


2. A Bear Called Paddington – Michael Bond

The story is centred around a brown bear named, Paddington and involves his unusual habits and adventures.

This is a fun book to read with kids that with help stir creativity and laughter.


3. Very Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle


This picture book tells a story of how a hungry caterpillar eats his way through a wide variety of food.

This classic is a great book that keeps the children entertained and interactive.


4. Big Friendly Giant – Roald Dahl


The BFG is a story that involves the bond between a little girl named Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant she befriends.

This story teachers the meaning of making friends despite the differences that other people have.


5. Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Jeff Kinney

Greg and his friend Rowley start high school and realise that they are the ‘wimpy,’ kids at school.

The story is a fun and entertaining read and also teaches kids that confidence and trying new activities is key.
