Subject Breakdown

Reading Comprehension

Number of Questions: 50
Time Limit: 30mins

Students are required to read a variety of texts and answer questions based on information gathered.

Texts included could be fiction or non-fiction.

Verbal Reasoning

Number of Questions: 60
Time Limit: 30mins

This section assesses students' ability to identify grammar errors, spelling errors and patterns in the form of words and letters.

A large extensive vocabulary will be beneficial to do well in this section.

Mathematics

Number of Questions: 60
Time Limit: 30mins

The mathematics exam focuses on more advanced math concepts such as algebra, surds and linear equations.

No calculators are permitted in this exam.

Numerical Reasoning

Number of Questions: 50
Time Limit: 30mins

This section tests the ability to discern number patterns.

This could include finding the missing number or missing shape.

Worded problems are also thrown into the mix in this section.

Creative Writing

Choose 1 prompt from 2.
Time Limit: 30mins

Students are given 2 prompts, one creative prompt and one persuasive prompt. From these 2 prompts, they select 1 to write on.

In creative writing, it is important to stay on topic and address the prompt. It is easy to go on a tangent when writing creatively.

Persuasive Writing

Choose 1 prompt from 2.
Time Limit: 30mins

Students are given 2 prompts, one creative prompt and one persuasive prompt. From these 2 prompts, they select 1 to write on.

In persuasive writing, students must present their opinion on a prompt.

Persuasive techniques should be used in order to achieve top marks.
